(Download The Wolverine) I'd better come clean - this is the first outing of the clawed one I've seen on screen, hence my views on the whole darn thing may be slightly off centre. I rather took to this Wolverine,(The Wolverine Download) his powers - self-healing and those rather artisan looking claws that emerge from his knuckles - seem quite homely. And he's Canadian.The fact that a good deal of the film didn't feel like a superhero movie seemed a good thing to me, but may not be quite in tune with the way most of you reading this would feel. However...

 

 

(Download The Wolverine) We meet Logan aka The Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in environmental Iron John mode moping about the woods with his pals the grizzlies (one fine cgi specimen in particular). He's just in the middle of revenging some dastardly doings on his furry friends when who should appear but a chirpy martial-arts-adept Japanese lass Yukio (Rila Fukushima) come to whisk him away to Japan.(Download The Wolverine Movie) He's summoned back to say goodbye to his dying friend Yashida, who as a youth he saved from death many years ago at the nuking of Nagasaki (yes, really), which we've seen as a prologue. Logan is scruffy and stubbly and morose, and in flashbacks we realise he's still in mourning for the love of his life whom he seems to have killed for some greater good - I pieced this together not knowing the back story, but it doesn't seem an impediment.

 

(Download The Wolverine) So depressed is he that he's almost resenting the superpowers that make him immortal. Still, he scrubs up well in the wealthy world of Japanese industry, in which Yashida has become a big player, and transmogrifies into a kind of James Bond with optional claws, with his suit and smooth socialising. Something dodgy's afoot though, involving Yashida's mysterious Slavonic blonde doctor (a Bond villainess if ever I saw one), his beautiful grand daughter (Watch The Wolverine Online) (Tao Okamoto) , and men in suits - yes, it can't be Japan without the Yakuzi! Numerous fights ensue, including a spectacular one along a bullet train roof, gravitational pull adding an extra dimension, and a beautiful almost monochrome night-time battle in a snowy landscape owing much to classic Japanese cinema.

 

 

(Download The Wolverine) The dastardly doc has somehow managed to reduce his ability to heal and regenerate his body, so for a while he's the wounded hero who isn't Super after all, and a much more interesting character, just like Mendes' old and wearied Bond. So far so interesting, even if it is hokum, but by the last section, where the obligatory big metal monster makes an appearance, Wolvie is himself again, in his vest, in love, and claws out and muscles all a-ripple, and we endure the usual crash whizz bang splinter everyone expects of a superhero movie. It all seems a bit of a ‘so what?' ending, but Jackman is pretty impressive both muscle-wise and as an almost broken man, the martial arts scenes in particular are spectacular, and both leading actresses, so different, are a pleasure to look at. Whether this will all be enough for the Superhero nuts I can't say, but it is entertaining, fine looking, the fights well-choreographed, snappily shot and on occasion, even for me, thrilling.

After the sheer awfulness of James “Logan” Howlett’s 2009 Origins story, Wolvie is back with a vengeance in this brooding yet bravura tale based on one of his most popular comic arcs. Taking him from Grizzly Adams-esque recluse back into the fighting fold, this Japanese sojourn owes more than a debt to Nolan’s Dark Knight and Marvel’s own Avengers series with its sombre storytelling and breadcrumbs of things to come (or should I say Future Past).

 

(Download The Wolverine) A working knowledge of the original X-trilogy would be helpful to prospective viewers, but even those who think Adamantium is a fan of 1980s New Romanticism will be swept along by the thrills, spills (a battle atop a bullet train the shining highlight) and meaty drama (thankfully not involving an alien invasion or city destruction) on offer.

 

There are plenty of pointy sticks, claws and cutting comments, as the script allows Jackman myriad opportunities for appropriate pithy remarks in his new guise as a ronin.

 

(Download The Wolverine) As has been a trademark of the X-Men, the girls also get in on the action, with Rila Fukushima surely the stuff of Tarantino’s dreams and Svetlana Khodchenkova a venomous adversary. And the end “stinger” continues a Marvellous tradition of whetting the appetite for more. Snikt!

With a mastery of Steven Spielberg close to Empire of the Sun , its cameras Mangold plant in Nagasaki in 1945 and his hero plunges into turmoil of an atomic bombing, after which he befriends Yoshida, a soldier Japanese it saves in extremis nuclear flames. Years have passed and Logan has experienced many troubles,(Download The Wolverine) not the least being the death of his beloved Jean Grey. Now haunted by recurring nightmares, it comes from his hermit life by Yukio, a young Japanese martial arts expert who acts as messenger. Logan is expected in Tokyo Yoshida, ready to exhale his last breath, wants to bid him farewell. But in the land of the rising sun, the man with the adamantium claws is a stranger, and that the enemy is about to meet beyond anything he could face before.

 

 

(Download The Wolverine) Wolverine offers us stunning action sequences (the kidnapping in the city center, the night fighting against the ninjas or this incredible chase on the roof of a high-speed train that will go down in the history of the waterfalls and special effects) and throws our hero pasture to the very impressive "Samurai" high color opponents (the fascinating and poisonous "Viper").(Download The Wolverine) But the film is not based mainly on its spectacular nature. Internal struggles Logan, translated perfectly by the intense game Hugh Jackman, have never been violent. Torn between two cultures (Western and Eastern), two natures (human and monster), two instincts (the withdrawal or selfless sacrifice), Wolverine is torn, and the questioning of his immortality begins his usual determination.
